IMD Aizawl marks Earth Day with plantation drive
Aizawl: The India Meteorological Department’s Aizawl Meteorological Centre marked Earth Day on Wednesday with activities focused on environmental sustainability, the IMD Aizawl said in a press statement.The programme aimed to raise awareness about climate change, environmental conservation and the need for collective action to protect the planet. Officials and staff took part in a plantation drive, awareness sessions and discussions on the role of meteorology in understanding and mitigating climate-related challenges.The event also underscored the importance of accurate weather and climate services for sustainable development and disaster risk reduction.Addressing the gathering, Head of the Meteorological Centre Sudheer Kumar Dwivedi urged judicious use of electricity and other energy sources, avoidance of wastage, conservation of water and natural resources, and promotion of clean and renewable energy. He also called on participants to adopt eco-friendly practices in daily life.Participants took a pledge to reduce plastic usage, conserve natural resources and spread environmental awareness in their communities.
